What is a Product Carbon Footprint?

 

The product carbon footprint (PCF) refers to the climate relevant emissions of a product. During the entire life cycle of a product - from raw material extraction to recycling or disposal - climate relevant impacts occur in the form of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Product Carbon Footprint helps to identify and quantify these impacts and to reduce them by taking the right measures or (ideally) to avoid them altogether.

Der Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) ist die etablierteste Methode zur Ermittlung der Klimawirkung eines Produkts. Während des gesamten Lebenszyklus eines Produkts - von der Rohstoffgewinnung bis zum Recycling oder der Entsorgung - entstehen klimarelevante Auswirkungen in Form von Treibhausgasemissionen. Der Product Carbon Footprint hilft, diese Auswirkungen zu identifizieren, zu analysieren und mit den richtigen Maßnahmen zu reduzieren oder (im Idealfall) ganz zu vermeiden.
