Explore how our TPE technologies deliver superior adhesion, design flexibility, and performance for multi-component applications, for the industry market.

In the world of modern manufacturing, nylon (PA) remains a go-to material for its strength, durability, and versatility. However, as the demand for multi-material solutions grows, particularly those combining hard and soft components, selecting the right material that bonds seamlessly with nylon becomes crucial. This is where KRAIBURG TPE’s THERMOLAST® K AD/PA, AD/PA/CS, VS/AD/HM, and THERMOLAST® R RC/AD/PA series truly stand out.

TPS vs. TPU and TPV: A Broader Processing Window for Greater Flexibility

When it comes to bonding with nylon, not all elastomers are created equal. Compared to TPU or TPV, TPS (Thermoplastic Styrenic Elastomers) from KRAIBURG TPE offers a much wider processing window—allowing for greater flexibility in production:

Elastomer Type  Processing Temperature Range
  • TPS (THERMOLAST® K)
180 °C to 270 °C
  • TPU
200 °C to 220 °C

This broader window simplifies processing and reduces the risk of defects, making THERMOLAST® K AD/PA, AD/PA/CS, VS/AD/HM, and THERMOLAST® R RC/AD/PA an attractive option for complex or high-volume manufacturing.

Product Series at a Glance

KRAIBURG TPE offers a variety of THERMOLAST® K and R series tailored to specific performance and processing needs. Each series provides reliable adhesion to nylon, with additional functional benefits:

  • AD/PA General Purpose: Adhesion to PA6, PA6.6 (up to 50% GF), and PA12; halogen-free; dry haptics; colorable; temperature stability up to 90 °C. Available in black and natural.
  • AD/PA/CS Compression Set Optimized: Designed for sealing applications, with strong PA adhesion, optimized compression set, and excellent flow properties.
  • VS/AD/HM Scratch Resistant: Velvety surface feel with high resistance to abrasion, scratch, skin oils, and UV exposure. Adhesion to PA6, PA12, PC, ABS, and more.
  • RC/AD/PA Recycled Series: >43% PCR/PIR content, with excellent PA6 and PA6.6 adhesion, reduced carbon footprint, and colorability. Supports in-process recycling.

All natural-color variants are easily colorable to meet custom design needs.

Industry Market Applications

THERMOLAST® K and R compounds offer tailored solutions for a variety of nylon (PA) overmolding needs in industrial environments. These materials combine excellent adhesion with specific performance attributes such as optimized compression set, scratch resistance, and sustainability—making them ideal for durable, functional parts across multiple use cases.
Below are typical applications in the industry market segment, organized by product series:

  • THERMOLAST® K AD/PA – General Purpose Series: Thumb wheels, function and design elements, handles (tools and power tools), grommets and cable clips.
  • THERMOLAST® K AD/PA/CS – Compression Set Optimized Series: Seals, fastenings, grommets, cable clips and membranes.
  • THERMOLAST® K VS/AD/HM – Scratch Resistance Series: Soft-touch surfaces (thumb wheels, push buttons, switches), handles (tools and power tools), function and design elements.
  • THERMOLAST® R RC/AD/PA – Recycled Content Series: Grip applications, soft-touch elements, function and design elements, over molded housings and fasteners.

These examples demonstrate the wide-ranging capabilities of KRAIBURG TPE’s solutions for technical applications that require durability, reliable adhesion to nylon, and surface aesthetics—all while supporting sustainable design where needed.
