In focus: Media-resistant TPEs for cosmetic applications

  • KRAIBURG TPE announces new solution for contact with isododecane-based products

  • Focus on waterproof cosmetics: New compounds expected from summer 2022 onwards

  • Customers and interested parties can contact us now with their specific requirements

KRAIBURG TPE is working on new answers for the cosmetics market: in the summer of 2022, the compound manufacturer will present solutions that can withstand contact with isododecane-based products without any changes - in the long term and safely. Interested parties can already express their requirement wishes now.

THERMOLAST® K compounds have established themselves over decades in the field of cosmetic packaging and applications. They can be found, for example, in wipers, applicators and mascara brushes. Due to the widespread use of water-based cosmetics, these have been at the center of application areas to date, as they are routine solutions that have long been established on the market. Following thorough test phases, KRAIBURG TPE will soon be offering mature alternatives for waterproof cosmetics and is already approaching interested parties with a view to launching the product on the market.

Waterproof cosmetics typically contain isododecane, a very nonpolar oil-like solvent. KRAIBURG TPE will soon be offering a solution to this material challenge: The new media-resistant compounds are based on COPEC®, TPE developed for high resistance to skin fats with a velvety surface. These have proven themselves for decades in the field of consumer electronics and now combine the positive properties of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) and thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPC) to meet the high demands of water-resistant cosmetics. The fusion of these components results in material solutions with excellent resistance to various cosmetic formulations, good processability in injection molding and adhesion to selected plastics. The materials also meet the requirements of the cosmetics industry according to US FDA CFR 21and Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011.

Effective immediately, customers and interested parties can contact the TPE manufacturer with their specific requirements.
